Members
understand that teishos are an important part of the practice
at the Center.
Newcomers
interested in reading more about teishos and their part in the
practice are invited to click here.
The best way to experience a teisho is, of course, to hear it as it
is given during sesshin. However, as we do not all have
the opportunity to go to every sesshin, the teishos have been
recorded so that more people can hear them.

Listening to a recorded teisho:
Teishos are intended to inspire and encourage rather than
to instruct. To get the most out of a teisho it is a good idea
to sit for at least one 35 minute period of zazen before starting
to listen to the teisho, and to continue with your practice during
the teisho. As teishos are between 45 and 60 minutes long, it
may be necessary to change your posture from one zazen posture
to another. It is preferable to follow the teisho with another
round of zazen. In this way the mind is open and present, receptive
to the teisho. It is not a good idea to take notes or to do other
activities (such as driving) as this will distract the mind from
the practice and so from the teisho. |
Two examples of a teisho:
Teishos are availbable for Montreal Zen Center members only,
however, these two iTeishos are given as examples of what a teisho
is. There are other examples in the Welcoming page and in the
page of 'Teishos by Albert
Low'

There are two ways of obtaining
a recorded teisho:
The Center has a collection of teishos that dates back to
1988. The Center has also compiled teishos in mp3 format for
the most recent years.
Members can order a cd by sending a note at teishos@zenmontreal.ca
or leaving a request on paper at the zendo. Due to the rising
costs, CDs picked up at the Center are now $8.00 each and
if mailing is necessary please add $3.00 for postage costs and envelope.
Payments should be made directly to the Montreal Zen Center and identified
“CD teishos”.

Downloading Instructions of an
mp3 file of the teisho or an iTeisho from this site:
To download an iTeisho, you must first have a “User
name” and a “Password”. These can be obtained
by contacting teishos@zenmontreal.ca.
Once you have been provided with a user name and password,
you will be able to access all iTeishos currently on-line.
The cost of an iTeisho is $5.00. Please make payments directly
to the Montreal Zen Center, identified as “iTeishos”.
Each year has a page with a list of the teishos recorded that
year. To download, click with the right button of
the mouse on the title of the teisho you wish to save or
if you are using a Macintosh with a single button mouse, use
click-option. A dialogue box will open with a series of options.
Select "Save
As" or "Save
link" on a Macintosh. After selecting your option, another
dialogue box will open asking you to enter your User Name and
Password. Once you have entered your User Name and Password,
click OK, after which the
Save As file dialogue box of your computer will open and you
can now select in which file you wish to keep the iTeisho, then
click Save. The file will start to download on to your computer.
Once the download is complete, you can copy the teisho onto
a CD or listen to it on your computer.
It is possible to listen to an iTeisho without downloading
it but as this would cost you $5.00 for each access, so we
recommend that you download and save the iTeisho to your computer
for future listening. N.B. For security reasons, passwords
will be changed every two months, so you will have to ask
for a password on a regular basis. Please do not hesitate
to contact teishos@zenmontreal.ca
if you have further questions.
